MERCHANTS
OF
ANDROMEDA
What is it: Sci-fi Board Game
I did: Artwork
In Merchants of Andromeda, you have to play the game of space politics, casting votes in the Senate, bidding on lucrative space goods, or resorting to ship combat. In space, cash is king!
Boardgame designers from Allplay approached me to illustrate one of their board games, their own take on dutch auctions, all set against the backdrop of a bustling space station in the Andromeda galaxy.
I illustrated about 80 unique playing cards, 6 boards, the packaging, tokens, company logos and characters of the game.
Merchants of Andromeda was realized through Kickstarter and will be shipped in the coming months.
You can find out more and pre-order the game over at Allplay.
Box Art
The Andromeda space station is a bustling place full of commerce, intrigue and possibilites. Sitting snuck between ressource-rich planets it is the perfect place for everyone seeking a fast trade and high return, regardless of their species or origin.
The vibe of Merchants of Andromedas world is a tongue-in-cheeck ultra-capitalist world. To show this I designed some fake ads for the sides of the packaging box highlighting some aspects of the games world.
Board Game
Merchants of Andromeda has quite a few assets to handle. Tokens, tiles, boards, currency and voting booths perfectly flesh out the fantasy of a trading game.
Card Illustrations
There are more than 80 play cards in the game, each with its own unique illustration. My goal was to flesh out the games world, one small image at a time. On the side there are also nods to old vintage games and sci-fi legends.
Game Boards
For a trading game you need some proper boards. There is a total of six boards in Merchants of Andromeda, from a tracker board that showcases important historical steps to a detailed station and an intergalactic senate.
Game Tiles
For casting your vote the game relies on senators with specific political agendas. All of them have their own unique illustrations and backgrounds to showcase their political standing. And there are also tiles depicting important decisions the players can take.
